The Carolina Hotel at The Pinehurst Resort
HOTEL DESCRIPTION The copper-roofed Carolina Hotel opened in 1901. Now a historic landmark, this grand hotel still exudes the same southern charm and tradition it did more than a century ago, but it also offers guests high-speed internet access, a pool, playground and more. Nestled among the Sandhills of North Carolina, Pinehurst Resort invites you to become part of its history and to experience southern hospitality, elegant accommodations, luxury spa facilities, family recreational activities, and of course, any one of their eight pristine world-class golf courses. In addition to offering one of the finest golf experiences in the country, Pinehurst also provides world-class spa and tennis vacations, as well as fun-filled family vacation packages.
HOTEL REVIEW Frommer's Review - "Established in 1901, this is one of the premier golf and tennis resorts in America. Set on 10,000 acres of landscaped grounds, it's a white, four-story clapboard landmark, with porches lined with comfortable rocking chairs. Here, the art of gracious living is still practiced. The public spaces and guest rooms have undergone extensive renovation. Bright, cheerful colors predominate in the spacious accommodations, which have an air of subdued elegance. In addition, the resort offers recently renovated villas, which are ideal for foursomes or eightsomes; and there's always the cozy Manor Inn for quiet getaways. Some guests prefer a condo by one of the golf courses or facing Lake Pinehurst. Each unit contains well-kept bathrooms with tub/shower combinations. The resort also owns the hotel's divinely comfortable neighbor, the Holly Inn, a charming turn-of-the-20th-century structure that offers deluxe accommodations and an imported Scottish bar."

HOTEL DESCRIPTION
It's no wonder the Holly is a
Four-Diamond hotel that houses our best Four-Diamond Restaurant, the
1895 Grille. Presidents have dined here. The name matches with its
opening year - and you'll leave just as entranced as they were, so many
years ago.

HOTEL DESCRIPTION HOTEL REVIEW Frommer's Review - "This three-story, white clapboard building, dating from 1895, is set in the midst of well-landscaped gardens. Casablanca-style fans rotate overhead on the front porch, and out back is a little pool. The rooms are sunny and flowery, with double, queen-size, or twin beds. Some of the bathrooms, with their claw-foot tubs, are a little too old-fashioned for comfort; the others have tub/shower combinations. The Olmsted and Page rooms, each of which has a fireplace, are our favorites. A tavern offers your basic pub menu. Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room. The fare's seasonings (or lack of them) won't frighten away this inn's mostly older patrons."

HOTEL DESCRIPTION HOTEL DESCRIPTION Frommer's Review - "Five miles east of Pinehurst, this 1921 hotel retains its old-fashioned comfort and a certain flair. It is owned and run by Pine Needles . Every hole on the golf course remains as it was in 1921 when Donald Ross first conceived this challenging course. A devoted clientele returns every year, but newcomers are also given a hearty welcome. It consists of a graceful three-story, Colonial-style main building with wings flanking the entrance. The lobby rotunda is gracious, with twin white staircases. The rooms are decorated with style and taste, although you may prefer one of the golf cottages or villas on the grounds -- some have their own fireplaces. The villas are the most spacious choices. Generous meals are prepared in the formal dining room. In summer, lunch is served on an informal terrace overlooking the fairways of the championship golf course."

HOTEL REVIEW
Frommer's Review - "With
all the pine trees in the area, someone had to name a hotel "Pine
Needles," and someone did. The resort -- home to the U.S. Women's Open
Championships -- is the creation of local legend Peggy Kirk Bell, a
champion golfer and golf instructor, who opened it with her late
husband. It has won many a devoted fan over the years. The golf course
here was designed in 1927 by Donald Ross, the famous golf architect. The
handsome rooms are spread across 10 rustic two- or four-story lodges
that can hold groups of 10 to 20 people each; returnees often select
their favorites. Decidedly informal, the accommodations have rustic
styling, often with exposed beams."
