ago, but it also offers guests high-speed internet access, a pool,
playground and more. Nestled among the Sandhills of North Carolina,

experience southern hospitality, elegant accommodations, luxury spa
facilities, family recreational activities, and of course, any one of
their eight pristine world-class golf courses. In addition to offering
one of the finest golf experiences in the country, Pinehurst also
provides world-class spa and tennis vacations, as well as fun-filled
family vacation packages.
HOTEL REVIEW
Frommer's Review -
"Established in
1901, this is one of the premier golf and tennis resorts in America. Set
on 10,000 acres of landscaped grounds, it's a white, four-story
clapboard landmark, with porches lined with comfortable rocking chairs.
Here, the art of gracious living is still practiced. The public spaces
and guest rooms have undergone extensive renovation. Bright, cheerful
colors predominate in the spacious accommodations, which have an air of
subdued elegance. In addition, the resort offers recently renovated
villas, which are ideal for foursomes or eightsomes; and there's always
the cozy Manor Inn for quiet getaways. Some guests prefer a condo by one
of the golf courses or facing Lake Pinehurst. Each unit contains
well-kept bathrooms with tub/shower combinations. The resort also owns
the hotel's divinely comfortable neighbor, the Holly Inn, a charming
turn-of-the-20th-century structure that offers deluxe accommodations and
an imported Scottish bar."

The Magnolia Inn
Built: 1895
Number of Rooms: 11 Rooms
HOTEL DESCRIPTION
At the corner of Magnolia and Chinquapin streets, in the heart of
historic Pinehurst, stands the elegant Magnolia Inn. Graceful longleaf
pines and fragrant magnolias surround this stately 110 year old Inn.
Step right off our front porch into the village, where you can find a
variety of shops, restaurants and galleries. Or you can take a horse
drawn carriage and tour the winding streets of this quaint New
England-style village.
HOTEL REVIEW
Frommer's Review -
"This three-story,
white clapboard building, dating from 1895, is set in the midst of
well-landscaped gardens. Casablanca-style fans rotate overhead on
the front porch, and out back is a little pool. The rooms are sunny and
flowery, with double, queen-size, or twin beds. Some of the bathrooms,
with their claw-foot tubs, are a little too old-fashioned for comfort;
the others have tub/shower combinations. The Olmsted and Page rooms,
each of which has a fireplace, are our favorites. A tavern offers your
basic pub menu. Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room. The
fare's seasonings (or lack of them) won't frighten away this inn's
mostly older patrons."

Mid Pines Inn
Built: 1921
Number of Rooms: 112 Rooms / 7
Villas
HOTEL DESCRIPTION
Built in 1921, the Mid Pines Inn presents a wonderful balance of
old-time charm and modern amenities in its 112-room Georgian-style inn
sitting atop a knoll overlooking the 18th hole. The recently renovated
building offers fine dining, wood-paneled reading rooms graced by
vintage photographs and rooms with modern conveniences.
HOTEL DESCRIPTION
Frommer's Review - "Five
miles east of Pinehurst, this 1921 hotel retains its old-fashioned
comfort and a certain flair. It is owned and run by Pine Needles . Every
hole on the golf course remains as it was in 1921 when Donald Ross first
conceived this challenging course. A devoted clientele returns every
year, but newcomers are also given a hearty welcome. It consists of a
graceful three-story, Colonial-style main building with wings flanking
the entrance. The lobby rotunda is gracious, with twin white staircases.
The rooms are decorated with style and taste, although you may prefer
one of the golf cottages or villas on the grounds -- some have their own
fireplaces. The villas are the most spacious choices. Generous meals are
prepared in the formal dining room. In summer, lunch is served on an
informal terrace overlooking the fairways of the championship golf
course."

The Pine Crest Inn
Built: Around 1915
Number of Rooms: 40 Rooms
HOTEL DESCRIPTION
Owned for the last 40 years by Bob Barrett, managed ably today by Bob's
son, Peter, and staffed by people who care about guest's comfort and
pleasure, The Pine Crest Inn was previously owned for 27 years (until
his death in 1948) by legendary international golf course architect,
Donald Ross.
From the moment you approach the Pine Crest's entrance, you'll know
you've found one of the most unique inns in all of the world in one of
the world's most unique villages.
Guests of the Pine Crest have long gazed through the inn's windows upon
surroundings nestled comfortably in tall pine trees while dining in a
restaurant some say is simply "the best".
With meals prepared as deliciously as any your mother ever made, The
Pine Crest Inn's dining room is visited regularly by the village's
residents - always an indication of just how good the food is.
If you've never slept in a room at the Pine Crest Inn, you're in for a
treat. If you've been a Pine Crest Inn guest before, you know what we
mean.
HOTEL REVIEWS
Frommer's Review - "Right in the heart of the
village, the Pine Crest Inn has been described by an English visitor as
having "all the flavor and courtesies of our countryside inns." It draws
people back year after year. Bob Barrett (proprietor since 1961) tells
us that approximately 80% of his guests are returnees -- and small
wonder, for the three-story, white-columned building radiates warmth
from the moment you enter the lobby, with its comfortable armchairs,
fireplace, and bar. Each room is well maintained and has a bathroom with
combination tub/shower. Our favorite place to stay is the Telephone
Cottage, named after its former function as a telephone switching
station. Roomy and comfortable, it's a separate cottage nestled under
the trees. Meals in the three dining rooms (with fireplaces and tasteful
wallpaper) are of such quality that they draw people from as far away as
Raleigh and Charlotte."

Pine Needles Lodge
Built:
Number of Rooms: 72 Rooms
HOTEL
REVIEW
Frommer's Review - "With
all the pine trees in the area, someone had to name a hotel "Pine
Needles," and someone did. The resort -- home to the U.S. Women's Open
Championships -- is the creation of local legend Peggy Kirk Bell, a
champion golfer and golf instructor, who opened it with her late
husband. It has won many a devoted fan over the years. The golf course
here was designed in 1927 by Donald Ross, the famous golf architect. The
handsome rooms are spread across 10 rustic two- or four-story lodges
that can hold groups of 10 to 20 people each; returnees often select
their favorites. Decidedly informal, the accommodations have rustic
styling, often with exposed beams."
